I have been thinking about getting into watch repair not that I would take my Rolex apart. I have been turning wrenches on cars trucks and heavy equiment for the last 30 years and the thought of tinkering with something mechanical that small is very intrigueing. Since we are on that subject anyone been through "Timezones" on line school? if so what are your thaughts about it. I have started to enroll a couple of times but have backed off.

Hey ice, at this stage of the game, I'd still buy it. Clock dissappeared in 1975 I think. Just would be neat to replace it with same model.

I have an 8 day (two weight) Cuckoo clock with a stag's head setup, but it's movement is made by Regula. I also have a 24hr (three weight) with a music box and rotating dancers, which I picked up in '97 during my Bavarian honeymoon. It's movement is also made by Regula. Ebay typically has cuckoo clocks in various configurations. Most of my Schatz movements are mounted in 400day Anniversary clocks (torsion springs).

Hermle and Regula may be the last remaining German mechanical movement clock manufacturers left, though there could be some smaller boutique builders out there, as well. I think Kienzle, which built the old Mercedes mechanical/electro-mechanical clocks up until the early '70's was bought out by VDO, which in turn was gobbled up by some other conglomerate, which in turn...

Was away on vacation for a few days.

Joseph Bulova school of watchmaking'81-'83,learned everything, balance staff making, how to make, fit and vibrate plain and Breguet overcoil hairsprings,"depthing"watch and clock plates for new bushings and jewels,"shellacking"new pallet stones, you name it,we learned it.

Went in the City for 4 years repairing high-end antique and modern stuff, everything from minute repeaters, tourbillon escapements,Patek Complications, ancient fusee watches, verge and otherwise and Chronometers,it was fun and I learned alot.

Now I only do antique clocks, especially early tallcase and tower clock movements,I think all those watches played havoc with my eyes.
