Sorry for the long post, needed to vent.

Background:
About 1.5 years ago we moved into a residential neighborhood/planned comunity in Temecula. The street is a culdesac with about 35 houses on it. Since I enjoy walking our dog I've managed to meet all of our neighbors and have made a few friends.

Situation:
During this time I've also had the displeasure of meeting one particular neihgbor that deems themselves the "Bad A__" who feels it's in their best interest to rule the street, I'll refer to him as Mr.X. He has walked in front of cars driving down the street and stopped them to tell them they're driving too fast (when in reality they're not!). Mr.X uses profanity on a regular basis when confronting others(even in front of his kids 3, 4, 7) as does Mrs.X. He's also walked into peoples front yards or driveway to confront them, again throwing every four letter word in the book. Not too long ago they confronted me and asked me not to walk my dog in front of their house again but they didn't explain why. Needless to say I didn't make any comments and kept walking. I later found out that they're accusing my dog of peeing on their lawn. If this were true I'd understand their anger but it's a flat out lie.

Note that they currently own two dogs which are two to three times the size of my dog, their dogs regularly defecate on their lawn without issue.

Recently they started blowing an air horn if one of our neighbors dogs is barking. Everyone knows dogs will bark and everyone on our street understands that (95% have dogs) so as long as it's not constantly barking it's not a problem. Mr.X's dogs bark as frequently as well but they're above the law.

We attempted neighborhood meetings with mediator and our association president and have invited Mr. & Mrs.X to attend. Only Mrs.X showed up, this makes sense since we all know Mr.X can not have a civilized conversation. These meetings typically end with an agreement which they brake in a month or two. Mr.X was waiting outside of one of those neihborhood meetings and as usual had something to say. Our association president was on the receiving end of some of his comments which helped him understand the situation.

Anyways, I'd love to hear of ideas and suggestions on how to alleviate this problem. No one on our street should have to be stressed living here because of one %$#&^.

Feel free to ask questions if I've missed anything.

Advertise in the local Gen-X papers that there will be a free-alcohol 'rave party' at their house

If that doesn't work.....

Fill out as many business reply cards with their address and phone as you can. 25 to 50 per week should suffice.

Go piss on his lawn yourself. Pick a fight with him, let him throw first then beat the dogs**t out of him. Only one way to deal with scum. You cant talk to him so, give some of his own right back to him. Got kids?How about the neighbors? tell them to egg his car, unless its a mercedes, just make his life hell. Thats what I did, I mean i would do, to someone like that.

I think this wason an episode of the A-Team...

Got any friends in law enforcement?

We had a similar problem with my Dad's new neighbours. Noisy late at night and frequently crank the bass so loud my Dad's paintings move on the walls (it's an attached condo).

Confronting the jerks was a waste of time and very exasperating. When my Dad politely confronted them late one night (2 a.m.) they actually threatened him. Told him to stop complaining or they'd "get mad".

Luckily, some of my brother and I's friends are police officers. One even patrols my Dad's neighbourhood. We asked him if he could pay a visit next time they were causing trouble. He did.

They've been great since.

Frequently these types of people are bullies and when they see a uniform they cave in. Good luck and don't do anything rash, as enticing as it may seem...

You could do a burn out in front off his house with your 500E. Might not solve anything but it would sure piss him off.

Sadly, there may not be anything you really can do. The police will only be able to do something if he's actually breaking a law. Unforunatly, there's no law for being an a##hole. Getting the neighborhood aligned to counter with organized "peer pressure" is probably the only thing you can do.
Seems there always has to be at least one of these jerks in every neighborhood.

I was involved in the same situation. Try what I did if it's bad enough. My neighbor (a real *******) was always coming into my yard and also knocking on my door. (using profanity always). I decided to call the police to report his trespassing and his using profanity in front of my young daughter. I used my wife, my daughter, and another neighbor as my witnesses. Then, with that complaint against him, I was able to have him served with an "order of protection" (restraining order). By law (and threat of jail) he could not talk to me or any member of my family, trespass on my property, mail me or even call me. About a month later, I was taking in my trash container from the curb, and from the middle of the street he said,"I'm gonna get you for this!" I called the police and told them that my family and I felt threatened, they looked up the order of protection warrant and asked me if I wanted to press charges. I said "yes", and they arrested him and took him to jail. He put his house up for sale and moved a month later. Good luck!

I have a neighbor a little like that. If it crosses a line I predict there a law against public profanity, or at least profanity in front of minors, I will persue. The first amentment only goes so far.

Well some good answers that I really appreciate.

I'd certainly love to make his life miserable but I'm certain he thrives on retaliation.

The police have been involved already and unfortunately like many have said they can't do much unless he breaks the law. Mr.X is very careful about what he does and so far hasn't really crossed the line, although it's inevitable something will happen eventually.

Tobasco, I'm going to discuss your reply with one of our neighbors, sounds like a good solution. If you don't mind me asking what would Mr.X have to do for us to get a restraining order? The restrainign orders I've heard of all involve a monetary fine, how did you get one that put him in jail? If you prefer you can email me this information, I trully appreciate it.

Open to any other suggestions so keep them coming.

LOL, yeah it was on an episode of The A-Team. That's my favorite episode btw. Its especially funny because they're picking on BA's (Mr. T's) mom (played by Della Reese), and they break her arm, so that really pisses BA off..really funny stuff.

I don't deal with neighbors since I live in the country. :p

Afshin,, I Had Two Neighbors like yours..One Lived..Yes Lived Next door and Would call the Police on me when I had Summer (DAY)Weekend Parties
In My Backyard..and also Call the Police when my Rose Bushes dropped pedals on her lawn...

I Won a Restraining order on them ..for Harassment..
And When Winter came ...Instead of Trimming My Roses...Well
I Bought Several Rose Trees to go Over the Rose Bushes

Also Parked My Inlaws Prevost Motor Home In Front of the Neighbors House...Did a Great Job of Blocking the House!

Spring came and the House went up for sale......

So Im Left With One NO Class Neighbor
Starts up his Diesel Ford Crew cab 5AM and Then goes back inside for about 10/20 min Then departs...Several Neighbors have tried to talk to this POS.......That Roll call is NOT at 5AM!!!!!
Also sits in his chair in the Garage Most every night and downs a 6 pack or two Yelling at people...Also *****es when people drive to fast in the track...BUT he has a Ferrari and Drives like a ASS
..but thats ok....We are Working on Him
