Opinion on BMW 8-Series?
I have been browsing through a few Taiwan used car websites, and see a few BMW 850Ci's for sale...what is everybody's opinion on this car? I think it is a beautiful car...the 850Ci's are '91 or '92 models with mileage around 65,000km, and are priced around 18,000USD...not a bad price...most of the ones being sold are black, but I see a few white ones...

Any W140 is a fraction of the cost to look after.

Ditto here. I've never heard anything good about them. I too would love one, but I'd park it next to my other love-to-own-but-never-drive dream car, a V-12 Jag XKE.

I dont even think they're pretty, like my guy said, a 140 coupe is much better and gots lots more power. Or if you do like the looks get a similar year Supra, they look just about the same, and the Supra, with a turbo gets on it, big time. Course, I wouldnt recommend that either, buy one for 3500 and spend 8K on it within a year.

I like the 8-series coupes. But, you may get eaten alive with maintenance and repair costs

The S600 Coupe is a much better car, but is still expensive to look after properly. It's not as sporty, but has more style (subjective, of course) and has not earned the reputation for being a lift-queen like the 850 cars.
The problem is that quality costs money and S600 cars cost mush more in the used market than the 850 cars, unless the 850 owner is on glue. I saw a 1991 850 for sale locally recently for $50K. Most sell for a fraction of that, mostly in the $20-25K range. A well looked after S600 can still fetch $45-50K. Of course, the S600 was $181,000 in Canada when new, so someone is eating a HUGE depreciation loss regardless.
