Remote starter range disappointing ...

Hello friends:

I purchased a Bulldog Security remote starter model RS122 for my 2002 Ford Taurus. It sits outside all of the time, and the car does really funny things if I try to drive right after starting it. It needs a good 7-8 minutes on really cold days before I try to drive. So I thought the remote starter would be a nice addition. I had one on my 190e and really liked it.

I had the starter installed last week Saturday, and thus far, I am less than impressed. I have to be like FIVE FEET in front of the damn car before it will even work!!! The unit is guaranteed to work for 400 feet, and to me, the range that I have right now is unacceptable.

The shop that installed the starter said that they have the antenna fully extended, and that it is installed correctly. If this is the case, then I don't think I would need to be right in front of the car for the remote start and the locks to work. When I had the Benz, I was able to start it from my third floor office window!!

The remote starter also isn't working!! When I push the start button the first time, one can hear the fuel pump, but then nothing happens. The second time I push it, the engine starts, it runs for about 5 seconds, and then promptly dies. Then, the starter will restart the engine, and it goes in this vicious start/die cycle before it totally gives up.

The techs called Bulldog Security, and they have some more ideas that they will try out tomorrow.

I guess overall, I'm disappointed at how this system works compared to the one I had in the Benz. It worked much better, and with much less hastle.

Would anyone have any suggestions on how I can improve the range on this thing, and maybe some wiring help to get the remote starter working right? The range thing is my big concern right now. I'm confident that they can fix the starter problem. HOPEFULLY!

Thanks for the help friends,
Michael in FRIGID and WAY BELOW ZERO Wisconsin
