BMW driver insecurity

OK I'll admit there are fools on all car message boards, but usually they are just kids messing.

Why do BMW ones tend to have (amongst largely sensible, intelligent people) a selection of clueless idiots? They can't be that stupid or young if they can afford an M5, so why do they act like they're 14 by imposing such blind, naive, biased, opinions on others?

On the upcoming Audi RS6 (the new A6 is not out for a while, and has never even been driven yet), which will have lamborghini's Gallardo V10:


I would take the new M5 over the Audi in a second.

First, auto versus stick - Advantage BMW
Second, overall handling - Advantage BMW
Third, the current M5 has more than enough power. With another 100, close to too much. The car is a perfect driver. - Advantage BMW

Fifth, I would take a BMW engine over a Lamborghini engine any day of the week. How many GP wins does a V10 Lamborghini have? How is Lamborghini reliability? - Advantage BMW

Too much power appears to be the latest reason for M5 competitors being rubbish. Straight line speed is no longer important.

So this guy WON'T boast non-stop if the new M5 has 640 bhp?
Try suggesting it might be too much just for BMW, and only a four-wheel drive car could harness it.

The human beings on the board thankfully pick him up on his lack of use of judgement.

?! Active steering was developed because the M5 pushes the limits of hp/handling? More than a Formula 1 car? They have to re-invent steering? If this is to be believed, we must also believe that BMWs are rubbish at coping with power, because clearly there have been racing cars with more hp/handling since about 1951, and road cars with more of each since the '80s. They've never had to 're-invent' steering to cope.

Of course, testers reckon Active steering is gimmicky and the 5-series drives better without it.

At the same time, in other posts the general opinion is that if you need technology in a performance car it's obviously engineered badly.

BMW makes a great car. Some owners ruin its reputation, and for that I feel sorry for the other owners.
