The coach was out of line and he's gonna pay with some skin off his hide. Good.

Because the teacher's union stands behind him is irrelevant. The union will stand behind anyone short of a child molester.

Step inside the mind of a teacher for a day. You are the unquestioned final authority on EVERYTHING. Not hard to let that get away from you sometimes and you do something stupid.

I remember a case that made the news. A little girl kept forgetting to bring her glasses to school. The teacher's bright idea was to take a felt marker and write all over the kid's face "Where are my glasses?" instead of sending home a written note.

My wife is a school teacher. I always marvel at how teachers have the worst public relations of any profession. No one hears about the tremendous job that the majority of teachers do day in and day out. All they get are stories like this in the news.

VD -- you really come off as if you've lost touch with reality here. For one thing, you keep trying to paint a picture of some kid that you don't know, or is he in fact a close friend of your family? From your ramblings, you seem to know this kid better than most people I've known for years. Why are you pretending that you know him when I strongly suspect that you don't? And you continue to miss the real point. Give it up -- a thousand flies can't be wrong.

And if the coach felt that breaking his arm was an appropriate reward, I assume that you would also support that? I don't really see that much of a difference save some insignificant medical bills. I'm sure the kid has insurance. How about shooting him in the foot? That'd teach him, right? Duh!

And before everyone here pounces on the coach, do they know this kid or the coach personally either?

How would you or any of you as a teacher or coach want to be stuck with a whiney brat who won't listen to you for months on end, and have your hands tied as to being able to discipline them?
First off no matter what, the coach had no right to do what he did.

Even if the kid was mouthy wouldn't that demand correction on the spot instead of waiting for the awards banquet while his father was there that should correct HIS child if he needed it at that time.

I'm just wondering do you have children?

Virginia Dude
you sound like a sick moron. This coach stated that he just wanted to motivate the kid. Well we as adults and leaders motivate by setting good examples.
The kid just wanted to get into a game, maybe he felt that he should be playing and not sitting on the bench, every player wants to play. This is a 13 year old boy.
This coach is 24 maybe he is a little inmature for his age.
As of this writing he as been fired as coach and allowed to teach.
I for one would not want this inmature idiot that lied and deceived the parents of this boy to teach my kid.
Virginia dude, you sound like your old school, and that is fine.
A good kick in the butt sometime is a strong motivator if done in the locker room. But public humilation and lying are never acceptable. Maybe this moron excoach will move on down to your redneck of the woods and teach/coach your kids or grandkids.

My god, you can pretty much blame anything on liberals huh? That’s like implying that only conservatives own weapons. All this does is reduce your credibility.

All I know is that no one, and I mean no one has a right to physically discipline my child, embarrass my child or in any way harm my child. Unless someone life is at risk, you don’t touch. If the child in question was being disruptive, then the child can be suspended, the parents contacted or any number of other courses of action could have been taken. You do not embarrass a child in public. I had a speech impediment when I was a child. I know first hand what it is like to be on the out side and look in.

You said you have a nephew that listens to you but not his parents. Well, perhaps the coach needs assistance or to find a new vocation if he is unable to control his students. If you can control your nephew then he should be able to do the same.

While I was in school, I could count the number of “good” teachers I had on one hand. Seems anyone willing to teach, can get a job as a teacher. We, as a society do not support our teachers. We expect them to be parent and educator yet we will hire anyone to do the job. If my experience in school is in any way reprehensive of society as a whole, in all likely hood, the teacher is getting what he deserves.

Man you're a scary SOB. Any one ever lays a hand on my kid with out my expressed permission, they will be in a heap of trouble. I and I alone will discipline my child. I have never been in an altercation, I have never had to use force of any type on my child. We talk things out. My child has been grounded, been given extra chores, been docked pay from his allowance. Never once spanked. Spanking, as far as I am concerned, is for those who have failed at parenting.

If my child were in that coaches class and the coach was not disciplined or terminated, that principle would wish he/she never knew me. I would be his/her worst night mare.

As far as I have read in your posts you have not asked why this happened, what could have been done to prevent it, what was done to prevent it. You just assume that the child deserved. I maintain that no child deserves to be humiliated in front of hi or her peers.

You seem to resort to violence as a first resort. Is that a conservative trait? I think not. While I admit the state of our education system is quite poor, it has nothing to do with the abolishment of corporal punishment, nor liberal or conservative policy. The problem lies squarely on the shoulders of the parents. I hope you will not arguing that the only children who are misbehaving are liberal. It is not the schools job to discipline. It is their job to teach.

Just thought I’d look in on you kids and see if everything’s OK – no fights now. For all you parents out there – Hope you realize this is all a ruse of the National Education Association – They’re just trying to demonstrate the value of a higher education.

Seems as if Virginia AKA "Ginny" missed the class on critical thinking. Of course it's probably the liberal school board's fault that 25 years after he graduated high school he still can't spell or use grammar correctly. Of course blaming everyone else for his stupidity would be the "liberal" thing to do, so I guess if he's a true conservative he'll take personal responsibility for his low IQ and failure to improve his life on his own.
