LG!! I've been looking at front loaders myself.... and have been very impressed with how the LG front loaders appear to be designed. They also happen to be hundreds cheaper than the American namebrands, and have the largest capacity of any washer I've come across (3.2 or 3.7 cu ft.) Only downside is they are only at Best Buy or Fry's electronics.
Best of luck! John |

Our 12-yr old Kenmore finally gave up the ghost before the holiday weekend, so my wife and I took the opportunity to do some fact finding on front loaders while on vacation.
We actually purchased the Whirpool Duet washer and dryer while we were out of town. They arrived this weekend, and my wife immediately started stuffing the units with the backload of laundry. She is quite impressed. The wash loads aren't as heavy coming out because more water is extracted...and she insists that the whites are whiter (even my daughter discovered this). I'm sold...

We still haven't bought a new washer yet. Buying another car came first.
I've heard of the LG's. I'm wary of any off-brand though, no matter how good they are.. Where do you go when something breaks?

Washer
Forum never ceases to amaze me - the front loading washer thread is beating 240D behavior and the Delo thread
Front loaders are definately the way to go - I would never consider going back to top loaders. Top loaders remind me of a gas guzzling SUV We bought ours in the NW ten years ago and it's still going strong. At that time there was a $200 water/energy saver rebate being offered in OR and WA for front loaders.

Ok, I don't have either but use the laundromat so, I have a choice of using front or top. As quite a few said, the front loader actually cleans the clothes way better. It is also way more gentle on them. I have never had any damage in a front loader. On the other hand everytime I do use a top loader someting gets damaged, a collar here, a cuff there and anything with a string you can bet it will either get ripped off or at least wound so bad that you'll have to cut it off. As to gentle aggitation of the top loaders. that just It twists the clothes hard and the friction is actually worse then in a front loader. There they just fall like the old school rock in the river.
If you have ever been in a 3rd world country you'd know that washing your clothes in that matter actaullay leaves 'em cleaner. I have seen whites come out whiter then any mechanical machine can achieve. Of course the quality of water has a lot to do with the quality of the wash. Get a frontie and you will never look back and wonder why you ever used the top loader. BTW, the hardest thing on you clothes is actually the drier. What do you think is in the lint trap? It's you clothes brah.... |
