towing a mercedes slk 230

i have a 1999 slk 230 with a manual transmission, has anyone out there ever towed one behind a motorhome? mercedes themself will not say anything except they don't recommend it, it is out of warranty so they don't have a liability but nobody seems to be able to help me

Try posting this question in the Tech Help forum. This is a question that is not really that tough, but there are a few very qualified mechanics on that forum who should be able to help you. Personally, I would be inclined to put the car in neutral and have at it. I don't see how it differs much from normal driving where only one gear is selected and the rest are meshed but not engaged via the dog clutches. In the towing case, all are not engaged instead of 5 of 6 not being engaged. But don't take my word on this, go ahead and get a trained mechanic to weigh in on the question. Good luck, Jim
