My 500E 1/4 mile results

Went up to Santa Pod today.

Bloomin 'eck it was slippery ! First run I did was against a flame spitting Nissan Pulsar GTi-R with an intercooler the size of a house. Oh... and the driver said he's just spent a few days configuring the launch control. Cripes ! Results were:

Reaction - 1.014s (errrr!)
60ft - 2.729s
330ft - 6.516s
1/8et - 9.587s
1/8mph- 80.00mph
3/16et- 12.154s

1/4ET - 14.442
1/4MPH - 102.11

Thats not a bad terminal speed for a 14.4 second run. Basically a crap launch, followed by a decent run.

Second run I did was without traction control. Just spun all the power away. Damn lack of LSD. Was much slower :-(

Nice Brian...bet you surprised a bunch of folks that day! Did you line up with another fast car?

Here's what mine did/does at basically sea-level.

R/T- .748 (still not too good)
60'- 2.214
330'- 6.051
1/8- 9.168
MPH- 78.97
1000'- 11.864

1/4- 14.103
MPH- 100.93

This is with ASR on and first gear start. I suspect your car would be similar if not a bit faster if you hit the gas just right. What HP is your England edition rated at? Or is a German version...I forget.

Yeah.. the Pulsar is a fairly quick car really 300bhp and 320lb/ft in a 1200kg 4WD car (so as fast as a tuned WRX).

Your 330ft time is far better than mine.

I know where I can borrow some racing wets for some decent traction... might lower the pressures, strip all the weight out the 500 and see just how fast she'll go...!

Mine is an early european car, so apparently has about 20 more horsies than the US one.

My car's times are pretty good, I 'm happy with the way the car runs...I think I have an exceptionally strong motor at my 136K...though I wish I had your extra horses though...it would easily be a high 13-sec car....so I would like to think !

Is your dragstrip near sea-level? Some guys in the mid-west USA seem to pull 14.4-14.5s at the higher elevation with their 500Es. Its all good though ...14-sec sedans are darn fast enough...

yeah, its pretty close to sea level.

I just want to nudge under 14 which I believe she'll do, and then I'll stop and concentrate on dragging the Elise ! (should run low 12s)

Takes COLD air to get a basically stock 500E under 14 seconds. I did it once, but it was about 40 degrees F. with low humidity (somehow managed a 13.8). Otherwise I've only turned a 14.0 and slower-but that was before the y-pipe and ram-air were installed. We'll be going back to the drags soon...

Hey bud...what happened to the 13.5sec 1/4 mile you said you had a slip for from the NJ drags?

James, I've never once claimed a 13.5 (hell, I can't believe I turned a 13.8!), of that I am certain.

In point of fact (I just dug out the time slip we've discussed) the details are:

R/T: .625 (WAKE UP!!!)
60': 2.214
330: 5.939
1/8: 8.992 @ 79.84
1000: 11.629
1/4: 13.846 @ 102.12

This was done 3/19/00 at 5:19pm against Gary's E55 at Englishtown; temperature was 37 degrees F(!), and a low 29% humidity. Perfect for making power.

What you might be recalling, James, is a best-ever 13.38, but that was done by G-tech so I don't believe it.

You must be right, Michael.

Hey, let's you, me,David,Tony and Brian over to Lebanon Valley some wed. nite and see how they run?

Oh yeah...I don't remember Englishtown printing temp and humidity on their slips...where's that data from? Did the tower have that info? They should print it if not...makes a difference.

Yup, my slip's from "Old Bridge Township Raceway Park", and includes temp, relative humidity and Absolute Barometer.

I'm all for setting a date to run at Lebanon (plan is to run Tackman's Turbo there within the next 2-3 weeks)-but the 600E is still on the lift getting the rear suspension sorted out so can't be held to a date. However, once that's done we'll try to set something up (I'll need it to be after 5/11, which is when I'm back from the One Lap)

Put some paddle tires on the Lotus and drive over !

(I was reffering to E500 Ltd. Brian, who lives near us in CT, not you UK Brian, who I know does not live near us; but you are sure welcome if you ever do come over)
