Max ;

There are several OM617 AF housings, you're using the non U.S.A. spec. one .

I have at least one spare U.S.A. one, ping me off line please .

Got my rebuilt injectors in from Greazzer, got them installed with new heat shields this morning. Hoping to replace my overflow valve spring and install the IP during my lunch break!

After that's done, I can get my oil filter housing on, thermostat housing and other accessories installed, then hopefully my boss will let me use his lift to get the car in the air so I can finish up underneath the car, still got the oil pan gasket and drain plug, modify and install the shifter linkages, bolt up the trans mount.

I'm borrowing some valve adjustment wrenches so I can set valve lash, then torque the cam sprocket bolt down and finally get the valve cover on permanently.

Going to get my oil cooler flushed tomorrow morning as well.

Well, I didn't get my IP on, but I did manage to get some new 2 AWG battery cables, heat resistant sheath for the wiring running down next to the downpipe, and get it all installed (as well as the new overflow valve spring).

Post Battery Cables

What I have done is make uo my own 1 gauge battery cables that include a secondary wire from the ground to the engine, this really improves both the cranking speed and charging......

In general the ground cable should always be attached directly to the driveline....

I'll be running a cable from the ground point next to the hinge down to the bell housing, just haven't gotten to it yet. In my experience this has worked well.

Still waiting to hear back from you about the A/F housing also.

Post OM617 AF Housing

Soldering the ends to the cables makes a huge difference too .

I had one of mt Foster boys overdose and spent 17 + hours in the E.R. s the filter will have to wait a few days, I have it, not to worry .

I hope he's alright. No rush.

I spent the extra $$ and got the cables with ends already soldered on/cast in to the terminals. At least that's what it looked like in store, I didn't spend too long looking at them.

I don't want a repeat of the issues I had with the OM616 - cheap terminals melting from too much current draw, crappy connection...no thanks.

Got a lot of stuff done today. Oil pan is on, cooling system pretty much complete, got the inside cleaned up a bit. Also got my shifter in. Dad made me some new bushings, new spring bushings, and I installed leather wrapped knob from a much newer model. Had to make modifications to the original shaft. I love the look and feel of the new shift knob.

Impressive. The late model shift knob looks great.

Thanks Bill! I'm a fan of it also. Was probably more work than it was worth to install it, but the knob was free and is definitely an upgrade from stock.

Max - are you thinking about taking your car to the Legends of the Autobahn show in Monterey in August? While I have attended twice, I am not able to make it this year but I think you would really enjoy the experience.

I want to, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it. I want to make sure that the car is good to make that long drive before I get stranded in the middle of nowhere.

The 240D is also not anywhere close to show ready - the clear coat on the roof is missing, window tint is purple and scratched, rear drivers door has damage from the PO and has some poorly applied body filler. Not quite show material yet.

Max

OK. I understand. A good maiden voyage to build your confidence sounds like a good approach.

Got access to a lift for the weekend, so I've been hard at work. Got my electric fan installed and wired up, except for the temperature sensor that I still need to drill and tap a 3/8 NPT hole for.

Also got my master cylinder hooked up, will be bleeding the brakes tomorrow.

Put my prototype door pocket cupholder on. Works as intended and I'm ready to move forward with it.

Also bought one of these billet aluminum hose clamps to test fit. I love the look of this clamp, and I will be buying 3 more for the other radiator hose ends. They are quite a bit more expensive than normal clamps, but I figure why not?

Will provide more updates tomorrow.
