All 4 control arm braces are complete. They will get tack welded on before doing a fit check and then hopefully they will be ready for final welding. There are 24 more parts to be welded on to this subframe. Tomorrow I have another stack of patterns to cut out and fit test before sending out for laser cutting.

All four control arm braces are tack welded in place. I went to install it to do a fit check and realized I had removed the temporary front sub frame mounts. So I had to make from scratch the old fashion way, two of the parts I just sent out to be laser cut so I could tack weld in the permanent front subframe mounts. Now I ready to do the fit check. I will leave that for tomorrow. Mean while all the other little tiny pieces are now being laser cut accept for 2. The last two parts cant be designed until I get a satisfactory fit check.

And some folks will always want to know :

'Gee mister, why is this Hot Rod so expen$ive ?' .

When it's finished all they'll see is a nice old car that goes like stink, no grasp of what's entailed .

Long day today. Had the subframe in and out 3 times to fit check everything. Notice the shortened web on the left front. I'm finally at the point where everything fits perfectly accept of course the AC manifold. So do I discharge my perfectly working AC system and rework the manifold. Or do I say "F it" and just put two 1/4" shims under the engine. Tomorrow the welder comes over for some stuff that needs to be welded prior to closing up. All parts to close up are due in this week.

Yup. I had a guy from Brazil interested in purchasing one of those subframes. He said he was very concerned about the cost of shipping. I replied back to him that if he was concerned about the cost of shipping he was not in the game. Never heard from him again.

Moving along. Front subframe mounts are now permanently welded in place as well a 3 of the 4 web braces. I had to get the front subframe mounts welded before proceeding to covering that area. Did one more fit check today to confirm things and all looks good. More parts are being shipped tomorrow so it looks like Monday. Meanwhile I have plenty to do until then. Designing the spring tower braces, lots fabrication of little tiny parts and lots of deburring an smoothing out some rough edges. I now have it down to 20 steps left to complete. I would love to have this sent out for stress reliving but having trouble finding someone local. I'm also looking into E-Coating but cant find anyone for that either.

Last two laser cut parts have been ordered. They should be in by next weekend. Hopefully everything will fit right and it will be the last time I have to cutout cardboard templates. I also have about 6 other parts coming in Monday that I can fit and tack weld in place for the mean time. If all goes well E- Coating or Powder Coating the last week of March.

A lot got done today and yesterday but you wouldn't know it by the picture. 6 cover plates were completed and 4 were tack welded in place. Front subframe mount tubes were also created along with a tool to locate them in place. The subframe tubes still need a little more work. A side needs to be cut out of them for clearance.

Almost there. Two more little tiny pieces I need to fabricate and tack weld in place and two more pieces still to come in. The spring perch plates (Cardboard in the picture) were just completed today and I expect them to ship tomorrow. It looks like I may have all welding complete this weekend as long as the final fit check goes OK. In any case This picture shows' the finale product un-welded with cardboard spring perch plates.

Kind of a crash and burn today. The spring perch plates came in and were tack welded. I just got a new bottle of Argon for the welder. Everything fit fine on the bench. But I went to install it and it was difficult to install. I got it in and found several areas that need to be addressed. When I took it out I found that I actually bent the plates during the install. I was considering just taking them out straightening and reworking for more clearance but I have come too far for a hack job. The plates can be remade for $30 but unfortunately it will take a week. So hurry up and wait again.

Lots of welding done today 5 more pieces left to be welded on. Originally I estimated $300 for welding its going to be more like $500. The rest of the parts should be in by Wednesday.

Parts came in today and they fit fine and the subframe went in with no issues. BUT if you recall I need to add shims to raise the engine 1/4" until I fix the clearance issue with my AC manifold. Unfortunately the subframe wont go in with the shim. So back out and back on the bench for die grinding. The picture shows a 1/4" and a 3/8" shim on the table. Both fit fine on the bench but clearance needs to be added to clear the approach path to get the mounts in place. A few more hours of die grinding.

Waiting for the welder. All parts have been tack welded in place and have been test fit successfully. Welder should be in in about two hours.

Final welding is now complete. It will go off for powder coating on Monday. In the mean time I have several things I need to do.
1) Re-route transmission cooling lines.
2) Re-wrap my exhaust
3) Re-align the drive shaft for the lowered engine.

I think I can get that all done before it gets back from powder coating. Hopefully it will be back by Wednesday.
