1982 240D Long Term Resto

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to post some photos of our 240D resto.

The car as we purchased it, was in running condition and looking fairly decent. There are however plenty of issues with it as we keep digging into it. I'm not going to post them all, but rather as we tackle each one of them further on.

That said here is what we have planned for it:

-Complete new paint job, going to grey/silver mettalic.
-New interior in black.
-Engine overhaul, or rebuild, depending how close to spec it still is once we check it out on the engine stand.
-Refurb the AC unit.
-Add a decent stereo to it.

So essentially we are going towards factory new after we are done with it.

This first post has work completed between January and now. Maybe about 30 to 40 hours total so far into the disassembly (January to March, 2021).

Resto Begins January - March 2021 Stripping the body and prepping for engine and trans removal.

April 2021 Removing the engine, completing the body stri, making a jig for the car and mounting it on it. (pics to follow)

Thumbs up Another '82 240D

Looks like you're beginning with an above average car .

What happened to the back light ? .

I'll follow this build with keen interest as my favorite M-B is my 1982 240D base model .

I like the original color. Very Classy. Nothing wrong with silver but they are pretty common.

Post What Color

Color is a very subjective thing .

I prefer original but no every one has the option to go hunt up the color car they want to build...

When I was young I disliked red cars but now I like them ~ go figure .

I still don't like silver vehicles of any sort unless they're polished alloy .

The person who pays the bill$ gets to chose and no one else .

I eagerly await seeing this project done .

Looking forward to seeing the progress. Am working on a 1982 240d myself in Glasgow, Scotland. Have run into more rust than I expected, even for a W123!
