Just picked up a 1981 280 SEL sedan ( grey market ) .
There is also a voltmeter wired on the car by one of the previous owners.
My guess is they installed it due to this issue and they couldn't...

I do not need spacers. All 4 wheels of the S430 fit flush on the 300SD . Just need longer bolts by like 1/2 inch due to the offset.

just got a nice set of Wheels came off an '05 S430 ...with new Goodyear tires on them.
Both are the same bolt pattern ( with just a different offset) and they do fit and look...
