A 300CE convertible

I love my 230SL, but I can pick up a 300CE convertible. While I probably shouldn't just because it is possible to say "No". It's nice opportunity. Not that I can drive two convertibles at the same time.

It will set me back 4 grand, that includes delivery and the cost of my doing the head gasket. It's nice enough so that cosmetics make this California car "worth it" presumably.

So the question is, "why bother?" not to mention, things to say to sweeten my better half to the deal. She loves me and lets me take liberties (I have 24 cars in various states of disrepair).

This car uses the same hydraulics as the W129? What % of the parts are interchangeable? (as I had W129 parts car recently, so I do have a pile of spares).

Thx -CTH

Thank goodness, no. The fellow had been given a 10k estimate to do the head gasket from the dealer in Oakland that always serviced the car for him. But after agreeing to sell the car, he changed his mind abruptly and said he would fix it himself; that was just before I could send a nephew to it to eyeball the car and give him a deposit. 2 weeks later he changed his mind again and asked me to take it and then quickly sold it to somebody else entirely; again before my nephew could get there and give him the deposit.

So I bought a 280sel 4.5 instead. To me, it's a much better car for looks, style, mechanicals.

10K for a head gasket? A good 300CE Cabriolet is a future classic and is going up in price quick.

But it's the only 108 in the fleet. I haven't had one since 1997 (am not counting the garaged 6.3). I was over due and after I sold a derelict 230SL for too little money, I could afford to buy a "new" car.

I have decided to slim down a bit and sell the 6.3, the 300se lang and 300se swb W112 cars. Exotic has never been strong with me; I have them because "they were there". That will make space in the garage for the 280sel and the W123 coupe I'm still looking to pick up. I also need to sell the 51 and 52 rusty 220 parts cars and like five 6.9 cars if there is somebody crazy enough to take them.

If you're looking for a W123 coupe msg me. I have a Euro 280CE and 230CE that i'm looking to sell. I'm going the opposite way. I'm losing interest in mainstream cars and taking more interest in the exotics.
