Just one?

Thanks for the valuable info Gilly, but won't I need two bolts per side for the front?

Gilly

Any chance you've run across the numbers on how much those factory camber adjustment bolts change the front camber?

Also, any ideas on whether the rears are adjustable?

Ride height is a function of the spring, not the shock. So altering the shock composition (ie, hard in back, soft in front) won't cause the rear to sit any higher.

However, some shocks,...

Unfortunately, it appears that for 2001, the W210 chassis no longer has adjustment capabilities for the front camber. Oh well.

Common

Sluggish windows are a common problem on lots of cars. To fix the problem, you'll need to remove the door panel, and vapor barrier to gain access to the window mechanisms. Assuming there is no...

More importantly

The two shocks will have differing rebound/compression characteristics, which in emergency situations, or even in daily driving may be unpredictable.

I'd stick with the Bilsteins also on all four...

Thanks

Did you have a similar problem with the front camber? Or is your adjustable? I think your description leaves me a pretty good picture of what's involved. Why not just buy a set? Because of the...

Possibly..

Since the hard start disappeared right after the new chain was installed, but has since come back. I'd make sure that all the electrical connectors are clean. Take some electrical contact cleaner...

Break them in properly

I too would recommend getting new pads. Using old pads, you run the risk of squeeling, and prematurely wearing out the rotors, due to scores on the pads.

Also, equally important is to set the...

Does anyone have any experience using camber bolts to adjust camber on a 210 chassis?
PBALIAS, I'd be interested in hearing more about those camber bolts you made.

Brake pads

The Axxis Metalmasters are wonderful pads. They are however a fully metal pad, which can, compared to non-metallic take a little longer to warm up, and be a bit more harsh on the rotors. The...

No problem

Shouldn't be a problem. Check out pictures on http://www.sprewellracing.com and http://www.d2technik.com. Both sites have plenty of pictures of W210's with 19, and even 20" Brabus.

PBALIAS, I have to agree with you on this one. See my post http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?threadid=14992 for the flames I received for helping people out with lowering their car....

Reason for one rear fog

The rear fog is always on the driver's side of the vehicle, and there should only be one. Two fogs could confuse it with brake lights. The fog light is on the driver's side, so faster traffic will...

Ash, I agree

I have no problem paying for work that's done properly and correctly. You of course got a great deal on (I'm guessing here) the Neuspeed springs at $125. $160 for the install is certainly not...

Well

If dealers and service shops would charge a fair and accurate rate for their work, then we wouldn't need a help forum for us DIYer's.

We'll leave that for another thread.

Wait a minute

If you've got the right tool, why is it taking you 3-4 hours to change out a set of springs? It shouldn't take more than an hour, especially if you've got the experience of 2 or 3 a week. Even...

I disagree

If a tech says it's going to take 3-4+ hours, I'd say he's ill-equipped, and thus doesn't know what he's doing. Being ill-equipped is probably more dangerous than a diyer being properly equipped. ...

I wasn't the one actually lowering my car. I just found the article posted elsewhere.

Thanks Alon, I saw that thread actually, I just wasn't sure how similar the two cars were, so I thought I'd get specific. I imagine though that throwing a spring compressor in there also would help...

No luck

I've searched back a ways, and every reference to installing springs seems to bring up the same message "Use a springs compressor or you'll get hurt!". Well duh.

I was afraid I'd need to remove...
