I see what you mean about buildup on the top end of the stem. Guess I was thinking backwards here!

I had done a compression check prior to changing the cam. It wasn't great but acceptable. After...

Removing carbon buildup on exhaust valves

Thought I was making progress then problems again.

Cam on my 230.4 was shot and car ran like crap. Replaced cam and rockers and it ran pretty nice until it warms up. Finally figured out why.

I have the older all metal style. I'm guessing that the hex screw inside is the adjustment. What is the measurement anyway?

I'm still trying to find the stupid thing in the manual.

I've been looking at the 80's 190e for a daily driver. Pretty common for parts, not bad looking either. Just depends on how complicated they are to work on. My 115 series cars are simple.

I remember my first car, 1957 Chev wagon, straight six, three on the tree, really easy car to work on. Got it dead, got it running. From there things slowly got more and more complicated, less and...

Learning fast why people like the old Mercedes

Started off buying a 1975 230.4, still working on it but making slow progress. Next picked up a 1970 220D for parts. Stripping that one really sold me on these cars.

It took me maybe 3 hours to...

That's pretty much what I've been told on US automatics. Guess the rear pump doesn't make a big difference for towing.

Open for debate... towing an automatic car

Can you safely tow an automatic 1976 Mercedes 240D without disconnecting the driveshaft? I've searched this and several other Mercedes sites for info on the subject and it's 50-50 yes and no.

This guy picked it up early on. Like I said, I can barely hear it but he said it's there and the oil pressure drops off when it warms up. I'm taking his word for it at this point.

Once I get it...

1976 240D with a rod knock worth fixing?

Picked up a 1976 240D to put my 220 motor in but wondered if the 240 motor is worth fixing instead. It's got a rod knock, not major but it's there.

I know finding engine parts for my 1975 230.4...

Just visited the Deves website and they do list the rings. Just have to determine if my motor has Nyral pistons or not. Different rings listed for them but if I read right the others are 1973 only.

Will a 220D motor go into a 220.4?

I know, why would you want to? I'm still struggling with the 2.2 gas motor in the car and not making much headway. Everytime I fix one thing, something else fails. This might be a major nightmare...

Bumper swapping?? 220D to 220.4

Anyone ever attempted swapping the older style bumpers on the newer...

Did the valve adjustment first. That's not an easy job! Not a lot of room in there to work.

The only one that didn't look too good was #3. It's running weak and pressure didn't come up when I put oil in the cylinder. I'm guessing that I've got a valve issue there.

We're at 2800 feet. The compression ratio is 8:1.

1975 230, what should compression be??

Still don't have my MB manual and Chilton's doesn't list the spec. References to "compression specification" all over the book but no spec anywhere.

It's the M115 4 cylinder gas motor. Thanks.
