e320 99 wagon no dash lights

My son's 99 e320 has no dashboard lighting. fuses look fine. Any clues what to look for? Looking through the previous owners receipts shows they fixed the problem before, but not how they fixed it.

I had mine checked and refilled with 134A recently for similar symptoms after 4-5 years. A/C mechanic's first procedure is to vacuum down the system (remove the old) and see if it holds vac or leaks....
