Have a 2008 E320 Bluetec. Engine check light came on and is now in "limp-home mode" Any ideas??

Has anyone given this task a shot? I have a 1987 190D with a 2.5 engine. I found a 2.5 turbo, said to be from a 1990 or 1991 190D turbo, but all my technical data says that 1987 was the only year...
