yes, the spare unit I could not get a/c to do nothing. The unit that has been in there is doing what has been described. so I'm thinking it has to be the climate control unit.

85 190D A/C works on defrost only

My a/c will blow out ice cold only on the defrost setting for about 1min. Then it will start blowing out warm air. Then i shut it off, wait 1sec and hit defrost again and it immediately blows ice...

The oil filter by the way was extremely old and it was deteriorated. Could old cheapy thin oil do this? The oil filter shows a lack of oil changes.
