for welding the interior of the car, just keep a spray bottle filled with water to spray out small fires, it works well. and after your done and the weld has cooled, either use a rust-stopping paint...

having an underbody set of pans welded will help tremendiously with aerodynamics and interior sound reduction. ( i mean the mercedes underbody is no airplane under there...) Do not forget the stitch...
