OK, a "wobble" extension and a 1/2" drive 17mm...

OK, a "wobble" extension and a 1/2" drive 17mm socket did the trick. Right tool for the right job, I guess. Pretty much removed the starter without having to get under the car.

Had a few mins last night so I put it up on stands and took the two starter bolts out, followed by the bolts holding the starter to the starter brace.

Getting to the rear motor mount bolts...

W116 220D starter removal?

Umlaut's starter bendix now refuses to engage the starter ring. I am assuming that it may be old grease, car having sat for the past 10 years or so.

It looks fairly accessible, any tips or tricks...
