these are the same kind of bolts used on my W124...

these are the same kind of bolts used on my W124 - they have the pretty looking caps on them too.

the other problem with the new style bolts is that you need to carry a 17mm socket and 6 inch...

I think he meant the steel wheel bolts, which are tiny compared to the alloy wheel bolt, I think a 240D bolt will fit there.

The bolt in question is called extended lug wheel...

The bolt in question is called extended lug wheel bolt and it breaks off at the extended shaft.

I also thought of them as a goofy design and thought the bolt could break off from the shank, but I have always tightened them to 80 lb/ft. I can undo them very easily too.
