Its exactly the same as the one-piece unit...

Its exactly the same as the one-piece unit without the knob of course. You just screw it in, its pretty easy. :)

I believe he means that the aftermarket adapter...

I believe he means that the aftermarket adapter was initially intended for 560sel owners who wanted to change their stuck-on oem shift knobs but it can be used on a W124.
