E420 Euro Sport pics

Here's a few pics of my car after installing Euro Sport springs with 4 bump pads in back and one in front. Bilstein HD's all around. E500 front sway bar (not in the back yet) and 225/ZR50/16's on OEM replica wheels.

And one final....

We ended up with E500 alignment specs up front, but just over 2 degrees negative camber in back. Not exactly ideal. The suspension links have over 90,000 miles on them now. They look good, but I can't help but wonder if replacing all of them would bring things back closer to spec camber wise. I really like the handling and the ride. It's firm, much less roll, no bounce and looks great, I think.

Thanks to M.B. Doc for coming up with the part numbers and Phil in the PartsShop for his persistence in getting the stuff together. I wish that I could somehow get the microfiche so I wouldn't have to bug you guys to do this stuff (would be kinda fun, too.)

Find a 3.07 rear diff, and that baby will be faster to 100MPH than a stock 500E.

Nice ride,

Here's the side view. I really would like to next change the rear end gear, but might go with something a little more conservative. Perhaps the 2.65. I think this would still be a nice jump from the lowly 2.24 in it now, yet retain some dignity at the 80mph highway cruise that I so love. I'm carefully listening for DSantos progress on this comtemplated upgrade on his car. I have the PAD (Superchips) chip in it, and thoroughly upgraded the sound system. I wonder if the Timevalve Y-pipe resonator replacement would substantially improve the power. Comments?

Bob,

Your car looks great lowered. I may do just the same thing you did with the euro springs.

The rear end swap is being pushed out by a month or two. I should have it done by 2002. Will keep you posted once I get the project started.

Right now I am painting my lower panels to match the body for a mono look. My car is the same color as yours, Black (040). I have already shot the right panels. Removed them from the car and did it over a period of 2 weeks. I must say the car looks SO MUCH BETTER with the bottom half matching the body.

I am working on the left side now, then will hold off on the bumpers until the weather gets warmer. I'll do the diff swap once I get the left done.

Again, congrats on your suspension!

I'm glad to see a few 400E/E420 guys out there. I'm not sure if you've seen the thread about the E320 coupe that I started a few days ago.

Today I looked at a Pearl Black/Black E420, 90K. I think I might buy it. I was looking for other 400E/E420 members and the mods that they've done.

bobjohnson- Your E420 looks GREAT! Do you have the part numbers? When I get this car, I think I need to do what you've done.

But I have a question about the diff. gearing. Does the higher differential gearing mean quicker to 100 which means higher rpm's at freeway speeds and lower gas mileage? And the opposite?

I see from the posts that the E420 has a 2.24. What does the E500 have? And are they all swappable?

Thanks,

Craig

Bob,

The Car looks Great. I was wondering about the Superchip.
Was that a Chip change or did you have to send the computer to program ?

Also, Where did you get the chip from ?

TIA,
