Am I an Alcoholic?

I don't think I crave liquor but, I definitely like a nice buzz.

After a long day, I occasionally look forward to a bourbon & Coke, bourbon & water or a bourbon on the rocks. After a REALLLY long day, I look forward to a dry martini, a dirty martini and/or a double shot of vodka on the rocks. And sometimes, after a truly focked day, I would rather drink than eat (this isn't too often).

I've never been drunk and started a fight. But, I have been known to fall asleep...zzzzz.

Generally, when I get to the farm on Fridays, first I change into my grubbies and then I mix a 'big-gulp' bourbon and coke before I climb in the buggy and make the rounds (usually takes an hour to cover the whole place). But, I never carry the jug with me.

I don't DUI on public roads anymore (in the dark ages, it used to be pretty much OK here in Texas). Period.

...and no, I've never been arrested either.

Only once have I gotten so drunk out there that I lost my pickup in a ditch...in my defense, the ditch was full of weeds that were the same height as the surrounding grass and damned near invisible. Most importantly (to me), I didn't spill my beverage.

I've never gone to work drunk....well, at least not where I'm working now.

Comments? Advice?

Your fine. I gotta ask though, what's a "dirty Martini," one that uses bad language or stays out all night long?

Gin or Vodka with a tiny splash of the olive juice mixed in. Yum.

Maybe they're on to something. Hmm, notice the last two sentences.

I'm betting it's a combination of genetic factors and diet. I assume by your name and some things you've said previously that you're first-gen immigrant? The reason I ask is I'm wondering if you still eat a diet heavy in fish and other seafoods and low in animal fat or have you been seduced by the Siren call of seared animal fat?

LIVING LONGER: The Japanese still live longer than anyone else. Japanese women born in 1993 are expected to live 82.51 years- up .129 years from the previous year. Men are expected to live 76.25 years- up .16 years. French women placed second at 80.94 years followed by Switzerland at 80.90, Iceland at 80.89 and Sweden at 80.79. American women placed at 79.10 years. For men, second place was Iceland at 75.74 years, Sweden at 75.35, Hong Kong at 74.90 and Israel at 74.54. U.S. males were at 72.2 years. The Japanese said their long lives was due to moderation in eating and drinking. Other advice was early to bed and early to rise religious faith and hard work.

I'm not a first generation immigrant, but we still eat a diet of mainly fish, rice and vegetables.

We eat red meat maybe once or twice for dinner.

I always marvel at the life expectancy of the Japanese.

In spite of their good diet, they smoke and drink like no one else, which you'd think would counter balance the diet.

It is interesting though that the leading cause of death is stomach cancer, which they blame on excessive salt intake.

Giving it up for a certain period of time doesn't prove you are NOT an alcoholic. It is when you must have it that you are addicted. I have known alcoholics that need a drink after so many hours, days, weeks, etc, etc. It is hard but not impossible for an addict to stop for so many days. However, if you HAVE to have a drink every 6 months, I'd still say you are addicted.

Just a face wash would have worked.

I will bet there are any number of on-line questionaire sites intended to answer your question.

Craving alcohol seems like a pretty big indicator.

If you really enjoy it and can restrain yourself until the requisite time and then savor every drop you are not an alcoholic but a gentleman.

If you don't enjoy it and simply use it as a means to salve the fetid pus of your vanities and discolor your stale violet fancies, anxiously awaiting sweet oblivion to drown your sorrows and take pleasure in musing over your regrets, then you may consider yourself an Alky.

Otherwise,CHEERS!!!!!!!
