E300 check engine light - P0100, is this common?

Is a P0100 a common fault on a MY99 E300?

I've got a P0100, and think it's probably the MAF. Is there an easy test sequence to diagnose? I've looked at my CD, those diagnostics seem confusing. I'm temped to just replace it, since my research (and local parts store) seem to conclude they fail. (but they don't stock one)

And.... Is there a reason that the Merc MAF includes the round cylinder. It just seems odd. The electronics part of the maf more or less looks just like a Porsche Boxster one. (except my Merc MAF doesn't have a resistor, could the car have swallowed the resistor?) I think we need a little trial and error to try to find a cheaper solution, than a $300 dealer part. The local parts store is less. Mail order is almost reasonable. A friend of mine who works at Mack says, just drive it. But I can't do that. To me a CEL more or less means park it till you can fix it.

I'd feel better about that thread if it had a positive end.

I'll see if I can buy that part.

I did stop by a dealership in person and asked. They just said the $300 part. Now I wonder if the A6110940048 is available. I'll confirm it.

I can get it for $107.35 at my dealership but it has to be ordered

So.... is that a part for a US emmisions spec'd E300?

"While the OEM Bosch is the best (and correct) part for your engine, we've found that this part, originally designed for a European Mercedes CDI engine, behaves a lot like the stock Bosch unit. Back when the OEM cost north of $300, this Pierburg was a great deal. Some customers still prefer it today, though the OEM MAF is now around the same price."

This was on a site selling VW parts.

So... is this A6110940048 a normal US distributed part?

Is "your price", your internal dealercost?

Could I expect to walk into a Mercedes dealership and walk out with this part?

Please stop the innuendo that you're an expert on this part unless you've installed, bought, or sold one to someone and know that it actually worked.

I never said I was an expert in anything. However, that was a post that Sokoloff made. I called my local Mercedes dealership and gave them the part number and that is the cost they told me and said it was advailable. I was just trying to help but if you think that I am trying to insinuate anything, that is your perogative. Go buy that $300 part if you want an assurance that it will work. Have a nice day.

I read this brief thread, not much room for innuendo. Why would anyone want to respond to your posts?

Hey there, that's ok...

Aklim was really just pointing to a thread that had no conclusion.
Meaning he was no help at all. I read before I post.

Then when I said I would check it out. He more or less continued the thread that the part number was good. I'm not so sure that's a part number I want to use on my car.

If I offended Akim, please accept an apology. I did not mean to offend. The first reply wasn't conclusive, the second reply I mistoke you pretending to be an expert. I apologize.

To Paul..... So, you want to boo me away. Thanks. I just might. Perhaps you mistook my meaning for innuendo.

Forget it man.

I know how you can get abrasive when dealing with your cars, when you have an unknown problem and have those big dollars tied up in a Mercedes Benz and the dealer and many independents are circling like vultures just waiting for you to have to bring your high dollar vehicle into their shop for them to have a look. So, I understand you wanting to get it RIGHT, no guess work, if at all possible! Especially knowing that many times you can enter the shop with one problem and leave with several problems, some worst than your initial problem and none of them cheap. So, I know the tightness you are feeling, when you are trying to keep your car from being sabatoged and trying to keep a mechanic shop, dealer or otherwise, from owning your car with your ownership needed only when it's time to kick out the big bucks when they jank on your wallet, but if not careful, as you are; they own your car in every other aspect. Just remember that most are here to help, if and when they can. Use what you can, and forget the rest.

Think so, my friends E300D just blew the MAF last weekend. Phil has them for like $190 vs $300 from the dealer. No big deal simple change, strangely these cars seem to eat MAF's every few years.

This stuff is not rocket science, Thank you Len and Aklim. I purchased this from a seller in London. 4 days in shipping, 2 minutes to install, 55 dollars including shipping. All it took was common sense and some appreciation for the posters on this forum. Runs PERFECT btw.

Here's a source for this MAF @ $90. Same part number as what's in the photo in Superlite's post:

http://www.tdiparts.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=243

It's a popular "upgrade" on TDI's when the Bosch MAF fails.

Search MBDOCs' posts concerning "VW insert" MAF's used on MB's. He's pretty convinced they are not the same as Bosch OEM units and with his credentials and resources it is difficult to aruge with him.
