How about a different sort of forum statistics?

Dear All,

I have a habit of subscribing to a thread if I think it is of any good so that if I need to return to it I can more easily find it instead of using google... I guess others do the same...

Taking this one step further - there is a lot of information in this database that could be handy to know.

I was wondering if there was any way of showing the following favourites:-

Top 10 most replied to threads for each forum

Top 10 most subscribed threads

Top 10 most popular ratings

Top 10 who has started the most threads

A rating of who is active (over a six month period say) on the forum...

You know the sort of stuff where simple database commands could be used to give a quick and handy answer.

Bump! (and there's more)

I'd also like to see just a list of the last 50 threads I've contributed to - without individual posts and repeated posts - just a list like you get when you click on "New Posts"

Anyone with any thoughts out there?

I agree, in that for the member, it would make more sense than as it is now: [Find all posts by Army]

Yeah I'm just trying to keep track of any advice (good or bad!) that I've given. That way I can expand on my input or help again if necessary - or learn from the comments of others even if it is "stop talking #$%$#^ Army"!

Webmaster:
I've been wanting to ask if a function can be added - similar to 'Ignore' - a feature blocking individual threads from appearing, other than stickys. Some threads by their author or title alone are of no interest for whatever reason.

Another forum I am a member of has that feature, so I know it does exist in website format land..

No response from the powers that be...

OK powers that be - no response - how about a bit of extra space on the members "about me" page (http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/members/stretch.html) so I can stick in some links to my favourite threads?

I don't think I can add in much information in the existing slots:- biography, interests, occupation etc etc

A common line heard is that mods are swamped with PM's complaining about things.
It would be worthwhile for the amount of such traffic to be shown some place. If a post has been flagged then if it was known, others need not flag it as well or is multiple flagging a method used to determine if a post is a problem?

That indeed would be more efficient - an already reported flag would be great. If for some reason a member still needs his say then I guess they could always send a PM.

Something for the future?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Internet_forum_software

I'm amazed how many different types of forum there are...

...not at all like the usual VHS vs Betamax type of race...

I'm aware of lots of different BB software.
The challenge to changing brands is the risk of losing all previous posts.

It would be a sad day if we lost 11 years worth of posts!

@ Wayne the new owner - how about the ideas in this thread? Bill has already explained why they would be difficult to incorporate. Do you think in the future somethings like this could ever be a possibility though?

Sure! What you are describing is something that I've been trying to incorporate on the Pelican site for years - a directory of common threads / answers all linked together in an easy-to-find / easy-to-read format. I haven't been able to come up with the perfect solution yet though...

Well if you need some help looking, this forum seems to be the prefect place to ask such off topic questions. I'm not kidding there are several IT professionals who contribute to this forum... and many many more enthusiastic "others".
