A/C--Heater (Climate Control)

I have a 79 450 SLC. The A/C is not functioning and the problem is in the Freon Sensor. I wired past it to engage the compressor clutch and the A/C works. I have a couple of questions, help please:
1. Is this system a "heat pump" system, ie does the heater work off of the A/C compressor? I cannot find any heater hoses from the radiator.
2. The slides, fan and temperature controls on the climate control consul. How do I set those for heat? I do not have a manual for this.
3. If the system is a heat pump system then I should be able to test it in the heat mode by engaging the clutch as I did to test it in A/C mode???
