Intermittent turn signal woe
got the weirdest thing yesterday
as i went to make a turn, i pulled the indicator stalk and didn't see the turn signal flash i thought it was no big thing....so along the highway (it was night and no cars around) i began to indicate left turn, right turn, etc the signal would only flash every once in awhile, sometimes it would delay in turning on, sometimes not turn on at all, other times work just fine so i did a search on the forum and only found posts for the older models and not the w124.....from the older posts.....members had advised to check the fuses, see if the hazard lights would work also since mine is intermittent i don't know where to start, checked this morning and everything seemed to be working fine my main concern is driving, signalling, and i cause an accident or caused by me because i'm thinking my signal is working when it wasn't so if anybody has a clue to were to start, i'd sure like to hear from you thank you, reny PS sorry for the long winded tale |

same problem here
Hello reny,
Reading your post reminded me that my intermittent flashing has not happened in about a year now.. I had forgotten all about the problem. Mine is the "older" model 123 but I know my problem is in the turn signal switch in the steering column and I need to replace it. I think it's called a "multi-switch" or something like that.. don't have manual handy.

94 e420
I have had the very same experience a few times with my car. The turn signals just appear to be non-operable. It has always started working again without any intervention. I have been "miffed" but it as well but since it has only been very temporary have not done anything about it.

well this intermittent thing is more frequent now driving from DC to NJ today was kind of hair raising at times, its always pretty congested so changing lanes was a nightmare as i never knew if the signal would indicate or not i did remember to check if the hazards worked when the turn signals were working and they don't work either when the problem happens i hope i'm as lucky as Chad and i doesn't happen again, but it failing pretty frequently in the last 2 days does worry me 'nellotare' how much was that switch u had to replace ? -Ren PS thanks for the response |

called Combination Switch and I haven't replaced mine.. need to. I know it's the switch on mine because wipers don't always work right and when I dim/brighten headlamps.. they might go completely out until I wiggle the switch again.
Fastlane has it for $135.63 http://img.eautopartscatalog.com/live/P301012285.JPG Performance Products has "Turn Signal Switch" for $101.25 mine is 123 chassis

Check for a poor, oxidized connection at the fuse. This was all that was wrong with mine, same exact symptoms as yours. Unfortunatley, I replaced the relay first. Clean all your fuses and retainers with emory cloth.

i know this is an old post and i should of fixed it by now but i haven't had a problem with this problem until recently
so my I cleaned all the fuses and such in the fall and it was fine again then just randomly ooking through the Mercedes Benz E-Class Owners Bible I came upon what might be troubling my car seems that relay in position H is what's causing all the problems it controls the Turn Signal, Heated Rear Window, Hazard Lights, and the Wiper Motor....wow all the things that don't work from time to time ![]() good thing is that FastLane has it for like $80 part # P2020-32725 so recap of what to change (if looking at ur engine bay) if u go to ur Main Relay Panel (behind the Main Fuse Panel) the relay in question is the middle front one (closest to the front) also its one of the biggest one in the middle row |
