The power steering filter is at the bottom of the power steering fluid reservoir. Reach in with long nose pliers and extract it. It makes sense to flush the system while you're at it. Procedure is in the archives but generally you stick the return hose in a bucket and turn the front wheels from lock to lock with the front of the car in the air while adding fresh fluid to the reseroir. If you're not up to doing that or paying to have it done, use an oil extractor or turkey baster to empty the reservoir, replace the filter and put new fluid in the reservoir.

I don't know what kind of fluid your car uses but I'm pretty sure ATF is a no-no.

I changed my PS fluid/filter yesterday - 1 ltr of mercedes fluid cost 20 euro including taxes! And I only needed to use 13 euro of that....

Power steering Filter

Thanks for the reply .
I wonder what if I mess up when I am trying to bleed the old power steering fluid and some how I introduce some air in the steering system ! I like to know if that is detrimental as air in the break line. mey be it dosen't matter much . If some one can reply.

You don't want air in the system,it won't kill you but the system just won't be as efficent. The best way to bleed it is to refill the resovoir then run the engine and turn the wheels lock to lock a couple of times (you should see little bubbles rise up) then top up the fluid. Its proberly worth going for a quick spin and then checking again.

I don't think the 1997C280 has a power steering filter.

Use the turkey baster method every six months
