W202 C280 ABS Light on and not shifting

Hello-

My 1997 C280 is not shifting. When I start the car, put it in gear, the ABS light stays on and the car will not shift from 2nd to 3rd. I turned the car off, started it again and it worked ok for a little while and then the car down-shifted, the ABS light came on and it did not shift back like normal. Any ideas? Is it the Speed sensor on the differential? If so, is it easy to change by myself or do I have to take it in? Thanks!!!!!

John

You need to have codes read from the traction system & transmission!
MOST of the time the differential speed sensor is the problem.

I agree with MD Doc about the transmission problem, but no idea why you'd also have the ABS light on at the same time. Low voltage maybe?

Found the problem

I took it in and it was the Differential Speed Sensor. It is linked up with the ABS system...that is why the light was coming on. $130 part, $350 total repair. Thanks for the help!!!
