97 c230 misfire
I am new to this site. I am having a problem with my 1997 C230.
After driving for extended highway miles, when I exit highway, check engine light comes on when car is slowing down, then car acts like it is only running on 2 cyl. I pull over, shut car off and restart then car runs fine, but light stays on. Sometimes for a day, but eventually light goes off. Mechanic got misfire code on #2 & #4 when took in for service. Has any one else had this problem? |

Thanks for the reply manny. My mechanic just replaced plugs and connectors
yesterday, so I am hoping that this will take care of our problem. ![]() |

You're welcome.
If you don't mind, let us know if the diagnosis was correct. If it was, it will make us feel very smart. If it wasn't, I guess you're just dealing with a bunch of dumb asses around here. ![]()

Hello,
I have the exact same problem. I replaced the wires and the plugs looked new. I also noticed that the injector number two works when you start and then a couple of seconds after it stops working. I have not traced the wires to the computer yet but. I don't know if it is the computer or the harness. Do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks |

I recently started having the same problem and believe to have fixed it. Is your car running a little hotter than normal? Is your exhaust more smoky like a diesel? It may be your EGR valve. I didn't replace mine, only cleaned it ($200 is to much). It seemed to be jammed. The diaphragm moves up and down on a shaft located on the bottom. I manually pushed up on the diaphragm to unjam, cleaned w/carb cleaner, and lubed it. It slides on an external cylinder. Clean the internal valve too. Car seems to be running much better. It is a hassle to access, at the back of the engine on the intake side (see diagram on underside of hood). You might want to flush your vacuum lines while you’re at it. Spray carb cleaner in and watch it get pulled thru the line on the top of the EGR valve. I guess the computer won't throw a code as long as there is a vacuum even if it is not functioning correctly.
