SEL Back Seat Removal & Are The Amps Behind It?

How in the world do you get the rear seat cushions out on an 88 560SEL with the power seat? I've done a search and have the CD but I can find nothing. Are the speaker amps behind the seat as they are in my 420?
Thanks.
Harold

Very easy DIY

there are two screws at each very side at the bottom of the seat cushion. Be careful to save the back side bolts when you take those two screws out. After that, just use force to pull the cushion out. The only thing attached to it will be your heater connecters. The seat back has three screws at the bottom and a coupel of plastics holders on top. Make sure you push the whole piece up after taking out the screws to set the top holder off and then bring the whole piece out.

Right behind the seat back, there should be a black fiber insulation sheet. Remove it from the corners should reveal the amp, one on each side. That was the set up on my 1991 560 SEL. One very common problems is only one side makes any sound and 9 out 10 time is a dead amp on that side. it is very hard to seperate the wire hardness from the amp because there is an internal lock. I broke one of mine the first time doing so. You will need to push the hardness down alone the flat side the release the lock. Switch them around should prove to you if the amp is dead.

I think I saw some of the amps on ebay for 19.99 each and no bidders. Good luck.

85-0513.pdf - MB Sound System
91-170.pdf - R & R for rear seat

Thanks guys. I had already undone the bolts but I couldn't get the seat to budge. I will try again. Should it move forward or upward? I also appreciate the location on the CD for the instructions. I am installing an aftermarket stereo. I will use the original wiring harness from the amps to route the output to the speakers. Use the fader in the stereo instead of the thumbwheel and won't have to run any new speaker wires. This is what I did in the 420 and it worked great.

FWIW there is not a section in the CD for rear power seat removal in the 88 560SEL section. It shows the procedure for non-reclining seats with the spring clips etc. I went to the 91 560SEL section and THERE IT IS!!!!
Thanks BigBenzWV.

Harry:
not sure where you are looking but the R & R for an 88 560SEL is definitely there. Here is the navigation:
Chassis & Body Manual -> more -> Seat and Restraint System more -> more -> Removal and installation of rear seat cushion and rear seat backrest. The link pulls up 91-170.pdf, same as the 91 model.
