Brake disc and pads recommendations please

I was told my front brakes need replacement. I checked FastLane and saw a set of brake pads by PBR for $36.05. Has anybody with experience with them? Are they any good or should I go for the high priced ones? Do they squeak? In addition, what about Balo brake disc? I don't believe high price = quality, but brakes are serious components and I don't want to end up wrecking the car trying to save a few bucks on disc and pads. My car is '95 SL. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Balo is a good quality german disc. I personally use textar pads on my car and am very happy with them. Anything from Pagid, Textar, or Jurid will be a good pad. I don't have any experience with the pbr.

I had Pagid for a short while and had bad squealing- when my tech took them off to check they were wearing oddly- and I'm not heavy on brakes. I have had Textar on since then (Jan) and no squealing.

I replaced mine with the PBR Deluxe and have been very happy with them. Applied the anti-squeel paste and they are quiet. Performace wise I motice no difference from the ones from the dealership except the PBR produce only 1/3 as much dust. I also replaced the rotors as the originals had 125000 miles on them.

The guys on here were great help (as was the DIY section) as this was my first brake job and all went real smooth. Good luck

I sell many Pagid, Textar, ATE brake pads for european cars. My personally cars (VW and MB) will be using Pagid or ATE. Both brands are good! Sometimes, Pagid is very easy getting squealing on specific models (don't know why)

I only sell and use PBR brand pads on Japanese cars. This pads need to warm up before good braking.

On the rotors, I will use ATE, Zimmermann, Balo. Those are good rotors. Some people like to use Bremboo (but make sure that is not made in Canada or Mexico ).

Another vote for Textar. They last a longer than the other OEM's, quiet, stop well, and put out MUCH less dust on the wheels. The Textars are the "yellow box" (European ) pads. Just started using Balo discs and at 20,000 miles, are wearing well.

The PBR Deluxe are excellent! No dust or squeal, easy on the rotors, and very long life.

They do require a bit more pedal effort, but you will get used to it, quickly. I've even run them in race track hot lap events. They are not a good track pad, but an excellent street pad.

Since these pads have a lower Cf than the OE pads and some aftermarket pads, suggest you change all four corners to keep the as designed front/rear brake balance.

In my first and only front brake change so far, used Balo rotors which are excellent. Pagid pads, for me, have excellent feel, no squeaks, but horrendous dust.
