strange noise help on 420sel
recently bought an 86 420sel, 156k miles, noticing a strange noise on acceleration, speed is not a factor- sound is a metalic vibration/ kind of bell ringing deal, lasts a couple seconds and gone, coast- again accelerate- happens again. any ideas on what i should check first?
thanks, Tom ![]() |

Center drive shaft support bearing. Put your hand on the hump between the floor boards in the rear as you hear it. It is felt distinctly in that area.

Bell
Clanging metal needs to be replaced without delay. I recommend not driving at highway speeds if it is the support bearing. Get it done this week.
