92 S body Trunk won't close
Has anyone had a problem with the trunk closing completely on a 140 style Mercedes? It looks like it is not completely closed. I don't know if it is tied to the power locks, but they work fine. Any suggestions? ALso, how hard is it to replace the front shocks on these cars? Are the after market shocks I see on ebay decent? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

well, try to see if you can graduate the rubbrer screws at each side of the trunk door, if not try to unscrew both of the screws on the lock, and move it upwards a little until it closes perfectly!!

Trunk closing
It could be the close assist pump which draws the lid down ( by drawing the upper latch in) after getting a signal from the latch. This pump also controls the soft "door close" $$$. Try removing the fuse in the trunk (#9) I think, and allow a few seconds to reset. the pump failure is common on that car.
The latch on the bottom has a habit of coming loose, check that, the screws are under those plastic covers. The latch should be moved downward but only if loose. You can rotate the lower latch to see if the striker in the upper lid retracts. The handle should also retract, search on "closing assist", I would not worry about the bumpers if it worked up till now. Make sure you push the trunk lid release button after manually rotating the latch. The lock and unlock are handled by a different pump under the rear seat, The close assist is over the drivers side rear wheel next to the gas tank Last edited by Peter Guenther; 08-31-2004 at 03:53 PM. |

Problem solved/Thanks
The latch was indeed loose. I removed the covers, tightened it down, and the trunk closes properly. Thanks again. I would be lost without this message board!

As far as shocks Bilstein is the shock for that car anything else would not be as good and maintain that great ride.
