I have heard of other benzs go 500K. There is a taxi cab in my town , i think its a 240D, with 500K . It is beat up but the operator swears it has the original tranny. Wow.

I guess it all depends on the maintenance. My money would be on a big ole 6 or 8 cylinder. Just my humble opinion.

I currently own a '85 190E 2.3 that has 243k miles on it. The only major thing that had to be changed was the heads. Other than that, it runs great. Of course, regular maintance has to be done. ( i.e. oil change, brakes, rotors, etc) I'm hoping that I can stack on another 250k miles before I buy another car. So if you own a '91 190E, I think you can easily hit 250k without much effort.

happy driving,
vu

This is an impossible question to answer unless your crystal ball is well tuned.

The key is to wear out the hood hinges first. If you do this, then you are checking things often enough to keep little problems from turning into big problems.

There is no reason that it shouldn't make 250K, as long as it is properly cared for. There's no guarantee, but the closest you can get to the guarantee, is frequent oil changing and looking around alot every time you change the oil, to see what may be amiss.

The other ingredient is to feel and listen. If you do this, your car will almost always tell you ahead of time that some part of it needs attention.

Don't let it run down. If some little something is not right, fix it. If you don't, eventually, all the little annoyances will discourage you and you will want to get rid of it.

Best of luck,

My daily driver is a 300E with 225k miles. Original engine. The only thing I done so far to the engine is change the seals. Most of the rubber around the car have to be change (i.e. hoses), other than that, good to go.

I have a 88 190e I bought 8 years ago it had 97.000 on it, I put 300.000 on it last year, and the engine when warm run the same as it did when I bought it. I must admit I changed the oil every 3000 miles. I replaced the transmission last year, and had a valve job 6 years ago. At times it did nickle and dime me but Ive learn to shop around for a good mechnic, and do the minor repairs myself. The cars still looks good to this day and rides like a brand new car. Ill drive the car till it cost to much to repair. Hope this helps you.

Dan:

I have an '83 Toyota truck that's about to turn 300,000 miles and an '87 Honda Accord that just truned 240,000 miles. Could a Benz do this? Of course it can - any model. I believe if the 2 F words....Fluids & Filters. I attribute this to the long life of my cars. My '91 300-SEL if a low mileage car; barring theft or accident, it too will one day do what my 2 Japanese cars have done....hopefully more.

Regards,

Mike Murrell
