89 300e a/c compressor parts?
I'm trying to find out if or where compressor parts ar available for the my converted a/c compressor. It is a "dennso" compressor and I'm not exactly sure what the part that is bad is called. I believe it is probably the thermostat. It plugs into the back of the compressor and has a 3 wire lead that runs into the wire connector where you plug the compressor in.
I know that sounds a little ruff, but I don't know ho to explain it much better. Hopefully someone with a little more knowledge will know what it is I'm refering to. Thanks Shawn |

That's the speed senosor.
Nippondenso AC compressors were used in lots of Japanese cars, so finding one in the junkyard won't be too difficult. Bad thing is that the only way the speed sensor can get "worn" so it makes noise is for the main shaft of the compressor to move back in the bearings. The speed sensor is a Hall Effect pickup, shouldn't actually touch anything. Check for grey or black residue in the AC components. If you find any, you will need to very carefully flush EVERYTHING and install a new or properly rebuilt AC compressor WITH an inline filter on the suction side. I've been advised to avoid any Nippondenso AC compressors rebuilt by Four Seasons, they almost always fail and the warrenty won't be honored due to "contamination". I've heard this is because there is junk in them when delivered, but I don't know this for a fact, having never taken one apart. You really want to get one rebuilt in Japan. Those are very good. A good used one from the junkyard will work, too. You have either a 10P15C or 10PA15C compressor, I believe. Both have four sections. ON the 10P15C, the center two sections are equal length, on the 10PA15C the two center sections are unequal length. Peter

speed sensor
am I going to find it easier to just replace the compressor or can I find this speed sensor very easly? The speed sensor your refering to, dose it have a magnet inside it? I haven't taken the compressor off yet but from what I can tell it looks to have a magnet inside it then surounded by some kind of porclin like materal.
I can't tell how far it goes inside the compressor, being that it is broke off. You mentioned that the speed sensor shouldn't actually touch anything so if it's broke off, like mine is then the main shaft has moved back in the bearings until it has hit the speed sensor? The compressor wasn't making a whole lot of noise, I thought it was a little worse than nornal, but at low rpm's it was barley noticable. |

Is your system currently charged?

If you're satisfied that only the "ceramic encased magnet with electrical connection" (which is a good description of a speed sensor) is bad and that the compressor rotates normally and has not had any problems except this, I'd replace the speed sensor and give it a try. If you call either of these two places for the part as they have proven very helpful to me in the past.
http://www.ackits.com/ http://www.acsource.com/ I know that you're not planning a full reseal, but this is worth reading also: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_Nippondenso_rebuild/911_Nippondenso_rebuild.htm

speed sensor?
Ok, I think that I can get away with just replacing the speed sensor, but now I'm coming across another problem. My local mercedes dealer is telling me that the speed sensor is listed as a R12 part only. Being that my system is converted to 134a, is this going to be a problem or is there a sensor that is for 134a?
