Kickdown Switch
My 89 300E does not seem to kick down properly, I cleaned the dirt off the switch on the floorboard, but I still have to hold the throttle down for 2+seconds before the transmission drops down a gear. Vacumn leak? Kick down switch at the transmission or a new switch on the floorboard required? How to check for proper functioning of each?
Thanks. |

On the 190E to test you just push the button and see if it goes to Zero Ohms on a Bolt/Ohm Meter! And is open when not depressed! If it tests fine then we move to the kickdown solenoid on the tranny. In which there should be 12V when the switched is depressed. On mine it was one wire going to the solenoid. I got a new solenoid only to realize that the wire was broken in the connector. So I pulled the connector apart and resoldered the wire and walla it now functions as designed. Also make sure there is 12V on one of the wires at the switch as well.
