Is there a CHEAP alternative for fuel pumps?

My pumps are going out on my 1990 300e and was wondering if there is a cheap universal pump that I could replace them with? At 250 a pop for the original pumps I dont' feel like shelling out 500 for a car that I am going to be getting rid of in the near future.

Fuel Pumps

Most of the auto stores stock a Ford fuel pump and the price is about 120. This pump is very similar to the MB Pump. Why do you have 2...Jim

I have 2 because mercedes installed 2 pumps? The 1990 300E has two pumps in line.

Sorry that was a little sarcastic...I really don't know, i'm one of the lucky 300e's that cost twice as much if the fuel pump goes out

Do you know what ford cars that pump goes to? Mustang?

Autozone sells cheap 'made in Taiwain' pumps. Was very loud, and lasted about 1 year.

Do you really need 2, or did just one fail?

I would suggest used Bosch pumps.

The way I look at it is both the pumps have 150,000 miles on them. If one went out the other is going to go out soon as well. They both are running just they are acting up, from time to time you can hear a grinding chugging sound from the pump, and if you hit them it goes back to the normal electric pump whine.

If I replace just one pump and the other pump goes completely out...and causes the new pump to die it would then cost me anther 2 pumps...Its best to replace both of them at the same time so nothing happens.

The cheap alternative is to buy the pumps here on FastLane. No generic replacements, and the car will be worth a whole lot more running that with bad fuel pumps.

Should last 200,000 plus miles.

There are USED fuel pumps.
Check a boneyard. At a U-pick one might cost under $20.

You can try this place...

I bought a remanufactured bosch fuel pump a few years ago. Still going strong. No other interest...
