Door Won't Shut

Have an 84 300SD and most of the time the drivers door does not completely shut on the first try. Thought it was the striker so I replaced with a new one. Door still studdered. Thought it was the striker adjustment but every time I moved it up, down, side to side the door studdered more. Thought maybe it was the metal adjusting plates between the striker and the door frame but when I removed (one or two of them), it wouldn't even shut. I'm confused on what the next step is. Is the door lock assembly worn out (the hook that inserts into the striker)? Anyone resolved this problem before?

Is the bottom portion of the pocket panel by any chance loosened from the door and striking early? If not, is the small panel surrounding the left-side mirror striking the outside of the pillar? Any rub marks indicating something running interference?
