Clanking sound from front wheel
Whenever I go over a bump I hear a kind of clanking sound coming from the right front wheel.
It sounds very tinny, almost like the sound of a couple of garbage lids being banged together. If the car had hub caps you would think it was something rattling around in them. Also, if I touch the breaks lightly I can hear a very similar but shorter sound. I can't hear either sound if I'm driving with the window up and I've vigorously pushed up and down on the suspension but that makes no sound and feels pretty solid. I can't imagine anything of any great importance is going to be made of a material that sounds so lightweight. Anyone got any ideas before I get the wheel off and start poking around? Light and tinny at the wheel? I wonder if your dust cover is loose or really close to the disk.
How does the 230 motor move that 124 around? Is it an auto? Jorg |

If you have brake dust shields, they are loose.
Otherwise, check the sliding part of the caliper for movement other than straight in and out. If it moves sideways, you need to replace the pins and bushings. Also check for broken springs on the brake pads -- the will rattle if that little spring on top isn't there or is not correctly sitting on the sides of the slot. The other possibility is a loose dust shield behind the rotor. Peter
