Please help. My engine cuts when driving
From out of the blue, my engine cut out 4 times today when coming into a roundabout or stoplight. Canīt really say when, but Iīd guess it dies right before it is supposed to gear down. A common factor would be that I am breaking, but not hard. The tranny is set to "S" if that should make a difference. This is a 300te from 1990. This also happened to my wife like 3 times in the late past.
Any ideas of where to start searching??? Thanks! jm |

From my understanding, reasons could be either fuel delivery (fuel filter, fuel pump, pump relais [MAS unit in your car], fuel distributor) or igniton (distributor, rotor, coil, wires, sparks, over-voltage protection relais [OVP]).
Most easyly, I would first visually inspect ignition wires, distributor, and rotor. When was the fuel filter replaced last? Could you exchange the OVP for a test? If nothing obvious, you have to search systematically. Searches in this forums may give you more specific information how to do so. Do you know a skilled mechanics? Good luck, Bruno |

Does this car have KE-Jetronic injection? If so, you have a sticking idle control valve that closes when you take your foot off the gas pedal and fails to open fast enough when the engine slows down. The result is a stall before the car comes to a stop.
Only happens on hard stops or rapid deceleration, driving lightly allows the valve to open and the engine to restart before the fuel pump switches off. It it happens while driving at open throttle, it's the fuel pump relay and/or fuel pumps. If you have LH-Jetronic (electronic multipoint) injection, you have another problem. Peter
