AC doesn't shut down
My 87 300D's AC doesn't shut down when I go to the EC button for fresh air--all other functions of Climate control are normal---what is causing this?
thanks joel |

Most likely is that the clutch follower doesn't have enough clearance (0.020").
IF you up-plug the connector on the compressor does it still run??

MB Doc
I forgot to mention or didn't clarify in my first post that when I shut the climate control down the AC does turn off as it should ---but the AC doesnot turn off when I go to EC fresh air Should I still disconnect at the compressor as instructed before? joel |

same thing
I've got the same problem with the SDL. However, it is even more bizarre.
In the economy mode, the system works as it should for about 20 minutes. Then, you can feel the clutch start to engage like the compressor is trying to come on, but will not fully engage. I usually just set it to the a/c mode at this point. If I turn the system off and then put it back on economy, it will run properly, again, for between 10 and 20 minutes, and then the problem starts all over again. This is really baffling because it would seem that the pushbutton unit could not act this way. Any ideas? |

thanks
How exactly does that work?
Every time the unit is activated in economy, it works just fine. 20 minutes later it is not fine. It engages the compressor. What possibly could be happening electrically that allows the unit to work every time it is reset? Would not bad solder joints be an ongoing, intermittent problem? |

Brian,
As you already know I am a complete student on these climate controls . . . that being said, is it possible this is a temperature related issue with the electrical circuit (wires/solder)? Resistance, heat or something. Probably not but possibly something to get you thinking harder . . . ![]()

yep
I'm sure thinking about it harder, Steve. It makes no sense that a reset, by turning the system off, then switching to economy, will allow the compressor to shut down. Does it cool off in the 60 seconds that it is shut down?
I suppose that this is possible. |
