w202, cannot turn off lights

i have a 95 c220 that won't start yesterday due to a drained battery. it turned out that my turn signal lights have been on the whole time (not exactly the turn signals, you know when you turn the light control 3/4 way just before you turn on the low beam you get both the front and back turn signals on). i can not turn them off!!! i have no problems turning on the low/high beams and turning them off. this problem has to be new because this is the first time i have to jump start my car since i change my alternator and battery last year. and i have parked my car longer than 3-4 days without problems starting after. i think it might be the problem with the light switches. i did have some water damage to the inside dash area 4years ago. thanks for your help.
