How about getting you there and back?
Had to drive out of state this summer and one of my axle boots had ripped and it started to knock to high heaven after about a hundred miles of driving. It was after dark on a sunday night and everything was closed up. We stopped at a convenience store looking for duct tape and wheel bearing grease. THey had the tape but not the grease. My buddy suggested 'Crisco' cooking grease. I drove up on a curb out back and crawled underneath and filled it with crisco, wrapped it with strips of cloth and then the duct tape. Drove 3 more hours that night and the 300 miles back later that week. Not a problem!! Drove it back and forth to work for two months before doing a more thorough repair.

You know your in a quality made car when it takes you from NYC to Miami (non-stop) and back (non-stop) without a problem--only oil change. Remind you this is a 12 year old car. This is why I think i'll drive a Benz until I die....

My first and current Mercedes was previously owned by my brother(he has no idea how much I love him for this). It's a 86 300E. It has 200k mi. on it,but it still drives better than any other car I've ever owned.
This is how I aquired the masterpiece(mine anyway). I was driving a 90 Honda Accord with 213k on it. He knew I always wanted to own a 300E, so he went out and bought one, just so he could have one before me. He does that alot to make me envious. Well, I've never known my brother to keep a car for more than 6 months tops. He purchased the car in Sept.99 and sure enough by Jan.00, he was ready to sell the car(not that he didn't like it, that's just how he is). Well, he tried to sell the car for $5500. but no one wanted it. They said it was too old(Thank all of you idiots ). Anyway, after not being able to sell the car, he approached me and asked if I was interested in the car. I was, but I couldn't let him know how much. So, I told him to let me get back to him. I knew that I was taking a chance on him finding someone to buy it but, that was the chance I had to take. It was now Feb.00, and still no takers, so he came to me once again. His proposal was, he would give me the Benz for the Honda, I figured let me see how good I actually was. I told him that I was in the process of saving for a house and I didn't have any money to give him. He told me since I'm his only brother he would do a straight up trade. Now I'm thinking ok what's wrong with it. He told me he just tuned it up completely, changed the fuel pump and filter but bascially that was it. I ran this by my wife who was totally against this(NOT THAT I WAS GOING TO LISTEN TO HER ANYWAY, THIS WAS A BENZ WE'RE TALKING ABOUT). To end this story I now have a 86 300E that I love, he sold the Honda for $3500, not that I care, my wife has had her 89 Maxima for sometime now, still haven't bought the house, still looking. BUT, I have a Mercedes Benz ...
The wheels and the exhaust is courtesy of my brother, he also has 17' wheels for it sitting in his basement but I don't think I will put them on, living in NYC. I already bent a chrome 16" Lorinser rim here, so I doubt that I will by these from him..Maybe, I don't know for sure..

MBZ- There are Motorcars, Automobiles and then there are Cars. Rolls Royce and Mercedes are MOTORCARS, BMW and Cadillac’s are automobiles, and Chevy, Honda are CARS.
Any-hoot, my first was a pristine 86' 190 in dark metallic blue. I thought well, are MBZ's really all they are cracked up to be? I didn't want to spend $55,000 - $165,000 on one and find out it was all crap. So I bought a perfect one for $4,700 with 115K and all the options, tint, etc. in Los Angeles. I took the plates off and put dealer plaques on and every one of my friends thought it was new or a late model. Usual guess as to how much I spent was over $20,000 if it was used, etc. I waxed it every month and took care of it like a baby. I always thought the 190E was a cheapy "starter" Benz before I bought it. WRONG!! This thing hadn't one squeak or rattle, drove like a tank-sports car and never failed to surprise me with the build quality and reliability. I immediately sold it a year later, for $5,800 and bought 2 300E's, one all black Sport and a Burgundy for my wife. We loved them so much we got an E55 and a 2001 CL500. Unsurpassed quality and reliability. The Burgundy 300 now has 220,000 miles and all I have done were oil changes, a tranny seal and rear shocks. Not one penny beyond that. No squeaks, no rattles, does NOT eat oil. Valve job coming only because we are supposed to. NO valve noise!! I regularly drive the 300's over 130mph. No glitches, same original tranny's. Have a friend with a 345,000 on her 300E. Still running strong.
After owning Caddie's, Fords, Chryslers, Hondas, etc. We will NEVER go back.

I have to check in on this one. I love my Benz, it is built like a tank. My truck is 10 years old with 90k miles. Recently I drove a 2000 Pathfinder, what a pile of junk! I can't believe people spend $35k+ on those things. I have owned it for one year, put 20k miles on it. This included two 5,000 mile road trips. Even my underpowered brick of a Benz will cruise effortlessly at 80 mph for days. Then it will shame ANYTHING off road. I sold it the other day, while demonstrating the truck for the buyer I took aim at a upright concrete curb in a parking lot, the G simply goes bump, bump and rolls on as if it were a tar strip in the road. Try that in your Jeep! I have had so much fun with this truck, even inadvertantly jumped it in the woods, never bottomed, no damage, engineered German tough. The new owner could not believe how well it rode, how quiet it was and the condition after 10 years is phenominal. Paint and interior still look like new. It was such an amazing machine I had to buy a newer one, I would never consider not owning a Benz. It is by far the most reliable car we have ever owned. I can't wait to pick up my new one, I am looking forward to the 2 1/2 day 2100 mile trip to get it home, MBZ is pure bliss on the road (or off in the case of the Gwagen).

Hey California Benz,

Nice line up, but you'll have to give me about 20 years to get to that point!

Cha..Ching

Oh yeah, you forgot one more, CLK-GTR! I'm not picky, I'll take any year.

We purchased our 1st MB 2 years ago. We were in need of another vehicle, but soon realized that only a used car was within our budget. Why? Not only was my wife was 6 months pregnant with our first child, but she was also quitting her job to be a stay@home.mom! So, I found a 240d trade-in that was at a dealer. It took FOREVER to accelerate (It was so slow that my was afraid that she'd go into labor and we'd never make it to a hospital in time). But due to many years of experience with VW diesels, I was able to determine that the acceleration issue was fuel related and purchased it for almost nothing. After my Dad & I tinkered with it for several weekends, it ran like a top (it will even chirp the tires when it shifts to 2nd gear … Lookout Michael Shumacher) ->> Fast Forward June 2000 ->-> Our 1990 Ford (the "Mommy Taxi") drank it's last sip of 89 octane ... i.e. we needed another vehicle. Since I'd acquired so many MB parts (& know-how) over the past two years, another MB made sense (especially since my wife now enjoyed the 240d). I got a 300sd in great condition at an auction that I thought my wife would love. WRONG. Why? Turbo Lag. After about two weeks, she said she felt "on-edge" in this car ... "It all of a sudden just takes off … I don't know what to expect when I have to put my foot down". Now the 240d is the "Mommy Taxi II" and I pilot the SD. I've been very impressed with my MB's and wouldn't hesitate to jump into either & drive cross-country. The boredom of their reliability has also impressed my Dad ….. He purchased a 300sdl last week. Go figure.

Hello fellow Benz lovers! My first and present benz is a 83 300D which i bought in june of this year. 10,000 miles later now with 188k i am convinced that this car may last until i get gray hairs, 15 years at least(i hope). Driving this slow, noisy automobile evokes such an emotional experience for me. Paid $1500 for it yet i feel like im driving the most superior automobile around. I laugh at people driving around in their expeditions, blazers, and pathfinders thinking they are the coolest thing since ice cream. More than likely they are leasing their piece of crap, gas guzzling, unsafe, and not to mention ugly vehicles. How sad i feel that everyone has to have the newest or coolest things. My benz may not be new, or quiet, or able to haul 2 bikes inside its inteior, but it rides, handles and brakes like no other car on the road. It gets 30 MPG, has all the creature comforts that the new cars have, and has more class than any other vehicle on the road. And just to mention, im not bitter at people who drive newer cars, i also own a 2000 Jeep. And in the last 5 mos. i've driven the M-B more than the jeep, even when i drive to campus. I can't wait for my next one! A 1972 280 SEL!!! Anyone know of one for sale???

Talking First Mercedes

Have a 1994 Euro C180 Elegance and enjoying the ride and economical running every weekend or whenever needed. I have had a string of cars since my first car, a Fiat 124(rust bucket). The others in terms of timing were Mazda 323(no power), Honda Quintet(rust bucket), Honda Accord(cranky auto), Mitsubishi(failed tranny), Commodore(good power), Camry(no power, bad brakes) and now this Mercedes. Very economical to run with 4 bangers, 16V and 1799cc. Not enough power uphill with folks in the back, but kickdown helps. Engine too loud for this marque, but seems "NORMAL". Cold shift something to get used to. However, the secure feeling of driving in a so-called "bank vault" is great. Sus is very compliant, but rear shocks may require renewal at 200,000kms or 6 months time. Next ride will be a 1995 onwards upgrade E class when the $$$ comes in,, if it does! Costs min. of $40,000 at the moment for the cheapest almost double the value of this one. Anything else will be out of reach. I enjoy the looks I get in carparks like he's a "pimp or d. dealer" and it makes my day! The build of the car is very solid and is more solid looking compared to the Japanese and Korean marques and the style is ageless. Really the last of the so-called Mercedes look as the newer ones have opted for round seperate or figure 8 slanting headlamps.

SHYNE,
It's nice to be in love......even if it is with your car. Be good to her and she will get you where you want to go.

I have owned three MBZ's and love them all.

Enjoy
