Car shakes when AC is on

My car has started shaking/vibrating whenever the AC is turned on, even when it is on low. It was always present but never this bad. Could anyone give me some help with this or have experience with it?

its a 96 C280 110K

That is a hell of a strong AC

Just kidding.

Check also how secure the compressor bolts are. If the motor mounts were bad, I would expect the shaking to happen at all times, not only when the AC is on.

Low or High is irrelevant, the car probably shakes because the compressor is engaging, not because of the setting on the blower fan. (IMHO)

Hi

Had similar problem on my R129 SL. I suggest you look at your AC cooling fans. My car had a broken blade that caused a lot of shaking and noise when AC was on.

Out of interest the fans (twin for my car) came as one unit and were very expensive, so I experimented by breaking of the blade opposite the broken blade to balance things out. It worked!!

Regards
