proper way to remove and reinstall driveshaft

I have an E300 D / 1995, somehow one of my silencer brackets which is a casted part of the transmission area broke, now I have to get it welded (aluminium welding), my local mechanic says that he will have to remove the drive shaft for taking our the area to be welded. Please tell me as to what precautions are to be taken while removing and reinstalling the drive shaft.

Mark all the component pieces before disassembly to maintain balance when reassembled. Dabs of paint or white-out (correction fluid for typewriters - remember those?) works good.
