I have 23000 miles on my 99 CLK 430 and this is the second time that the fuel sensor has gone bad. The first time was around 9000 miles. The dealer claims it is caused by fuel additives I find this hard to believe, I have never had a fuel sensor go bad on my other cars especially from a fuel additive. What's Mercedes doing, is their quality slipping?

Believe it or not, I think it is true
My C280 had the same problem as well as many new cars that came out in 99 and 2000

I too have had the fuel sensor replaced on my 99 CLK. If you do a search in the archives, you should find some information. I have had no further problems after the replacement. It seems MB knows about this problem and has changed the sensor design.
