I have another thread going on trying to start my 81 300D, but I have a side issue. I am going to replace all my glow plugs - the new kind - but have heard the term "hotter plugs" bandied around. When we say hotter, are we talking about the difference between the old "loop style" and the new "copper shaft style" or are there even hotter styles of new plugs?

Is there a unit of measure in the glowplugs?

Thanks.
Josh

One more thing,
How do I tell if the "new" pin style plugs are bad?

Thanks,
Josh

Josh, to test the 12v parallel-style plugs, connect suitable sized wires from the battery to the glow plug terminal and its threaded part. Best to mount the plug in something like a vise first. Be careful not to have anything important or combustible near the tip. The tip should glow yellow-hot in about 5 sec. You can't test the series ones this way because they should get about 2v, not 12v.
